History and Mission of River East Art Center
The history of River East Art Center begins with the history of River East, the city’s most spectacular lakefront neighborhood and the largest, and undoubtedly most ambitious, mixed-use urban development in the country. Thirteen acres bounded by the Chicago River, Grand Avenue, Columbus Drive and Lake Shore Drive... a neighborhood bridging North Michigan Avenue and Navy Pier with major hotels, dozens of restaurants, retailers, recreational opportunities and up to 2,500 residences. The neighborhood has arrived. The stage is now set for River East Art Center and Art Space Creative’s daring vision of River East’s artistic, cultural hub.

The Mission of River East Art Center can best be expressed by the synthesis of individuals coming together to create something larger then themselves, while maintaining personal uniqueness. River East Art Center hosts a broad range of musical, dance, spoken word and multi-disciplinary events. 

Attributes of the Space:
The design concept blended an unforgettable setting, soaring ceilings, a dazzling 60-ft. wide water wall, terrazzo floors, and brick and timber to create the decor. With an eye to the urban landscape the outdoor Passerella was developed to  overlook a picturesque waterway with a view of the skyline. Chic art galleries provide a unique ambience. The Landing on the Ogden Slip accommodates performers and audience alike, the Sopra for smaller and private engagements, and the Spiazzo, dedicated to hosting wedding receptions and other black tie functions.

In addition to serving high-end art galleries, there is a Fox & Obel food market, DeLaCosta, and plans for high-profile cafés and boutiques, even a spa, creating an ideal, one-stop environment for sophisticated shoppers and art patrons.
